Everything You Need To Know About Gary Johnson’s Rally On The U.S. Supreme Court Steps

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, October 16, 2017 – At 5:00 p.m. ET, October 26, Our America’s Honorary Chairman, Gov. Gary Johnson, will lead a rally on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court to draw attention to the Commission on Presidential Debates’ repeated exclusion of qualified third party candidates from the quadrennial nationally-televised presidential debates.

The Our America Initiative, a nonprofit organization advocating free markets, civil liberties and individual freedom, is backing a lawsuit challenging the CPD’s control over the only general election presidential debates voters see every four years. With Governor Johnson, the Libertarian Party, the Green Party and others as plaintiffs, the lawsuit has been pending in the federal courts for several years.

Johnson Will Urge the Supreme Court to Act on Presidential Debates Lawsuit

On August 29, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an earlier dismissal of Johnson v. Commission on Presidential Debates. Attorneys for the plaintiffs, led by Bruce Fein, have filed a Petition for rehearing and rehearing en banc, pursuant to the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure. If that petition is denied, Our America’s legal team will file a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari with the Supreme Court.

The legal challenge maintains that the private Commission on Presidential Debates represents an unfair and illegal monopoly that gives partisan advantage to the Republican and Democratic national parties and their nominees.

At the October 26 rally, Governor Johnson and other speakers will highlight the consequences of the CPD’s arbitrary use of polling to exclude qualified, credible candidates other than the Republican and Democratic nominees, and call on the Supreme Court to act.

The rally will be streamed on Facebook Live on both Our America’s Facebook page and Gov. Johnson’s page.
